Plasterer in Hastings
Hastings is roughly five miles from our base in Bexhill and is one of the areas we work in most. From the Old Town to Ore, Clive Vale, Blacklands and Hollington, the town has a huge range of property ages, and the plastering approach changes with each of them.
Russ has more than 25 years on the tools and is as comfortable with a breathable lime repair in a listed Old Town building as with boarding and skimming a new loft room. Send a photo on WhatsApp for a first opinion or book a visit.
What Hastings properties need from a plasterer
Hastings Old Town is a conservation area packed with timber-framed, Georgian and early Victorian buildings, and most of the wider town is Victorian and Edwardian terrace and villa housing. That stock means lath and plaster ceilings, solid walls originally finished in lime, and decorative cornice work that deserves a plasterer who will repair rather than rip out. On listed buildings a lime-based system is usually the right answer, and we will say so rather than push gypsum where it does not belong.
The 20th-century estates at Hollington, Ore and Broomgrove and the newer developments around the town are plasterboard and gypsum construction, where skimming, sticking and float and set are the bread-and-butter jobs. Hastings also has a lot of flat conversions, where sound and fire-rated boarding done properly matters as much as the finish.

Plastering services in Hastings
Everyday plastering and specialist decorative finishes, all carried out by Russ and his team.
Skimming
A skim coat is the thin, final layer of plaster that turns a rough or patched wall into a smooth, paint-ready surface.
Float and Set
Float and set is the traditional two-coat system for bringing uneven blockwork or badly damaged walls back to a true, flat, durable finish.
Tacking
Tacking is the fixing of plasterboard sheets to timber or metal stud frames and joists, the structural first step before any wall or ceiling can be skimmed.
Sticking
Sticking, or dot-and-dab drylining, fixes plasterboard directly to a solid wall with adhesive dabs, straightening the wall without losing much room depth.
Polished Plaster
Polished plaster is a Venetian-style decorative finish, hand-applied in thin layers and burnished to a smooth, marble-like sheen.
Tadelakt
Tadelakt is a traditional Moroccan lime plaster, hand-polished and soap-sealed to a naturally waterproof, seamless finish ideal for bathrooms and wet rooms.
Microcement
Microcement is a thin, seamless cement-based coating applied to floors, walls, and worktops for a sleek, contemporary, jointless finish.
Pitted / Concrete Finishes
Pitted and concrete-effect finishes give a wall the raw, textured character of exposed concrete without the weight, cost, or structural work of the real material.
