Plasterer in Bexhill-on-Sea
R Kenward Plastering Contractors is based in Bexhill, so this is home ground. Russ has been plastering for more than 25 years and has run the business from the town since 2009, covering everything from a single ceiling re-skim to full renovation plastering and specialist decorative finishes.
Because there is no travel involved, Bexhill jobs are straightforward to quote and to schedule. Send a photo of the wall or room on WhatsApp for a quick first opinion, or book a site visit for anything larger.
What Bexhill properties need from a plasterer
Bexhill grew quickly from the 1880s onwards, so a large share of the housing stock is late Victorian and Edwardian, with the 1920s and 1930s streets around Cooden, Little Common and Sidley adding a second wave. Those houses were built with lime plaster on lath ceilings and solid brick walls, which means older ceilings often need either careful re-skimming over a sound base or boarding and skimming where the lath has failed. The seafront and the exposed south-facing elevations also see more salt-laden damp than inland towns, and any plastering on those walls has to start with the moisture problem, not cover it.
Bexhill Old Town has an older core around St Peter's church with some genuinely historic buildings where a breathable lime system is the right call rather than modern gypsum. The post-war estates and newer developments on the north side of town are plasterboard and gypsum throughout, where tacking, sticking and skimming are the everyday work.
Also covering Hooe, Catsfield, Crowhurst and the surrounding lanes.
Plastering services in Bexhill
Everyday plastering and specialist decorative finishes, all carried out by Russ and his team.
Skimming
A skim coat is the thin, final layer of plaster that turns a rough or patched wall into a smooth, paint-ready surface.
Float and Set
Float and set is the traditional two-coat system for bringing uneven blockwork or badly damaged walls back to a true, flat, durable finish.
Tacking
Tacking is the fixing of plasterboard sheets to timber or metal stud frames and joists, the structural first step before any wall or ceiling can be skimmed.
Sticking
Sticking, or dot-and-dab drylining, fixes plasterboard directly to a solid wall with adhesive dabs, straightening the wall without losing much room depth.
Polished Plaster
Polished plaster is a Venetian-style decorative finish, hand-applied in thin layers and burnished to a smooth, marble-like sheen.
Tadelakt
Tadelakt is a traditional Moroccan lime plaster, hand-polished and soap-sealed to a naturally waterproof, seamless finish ideal for bathrooms and wet rooms.
Microcement
Microcement is a thin, seamless cement-based coating applied to floors, walls, and worktops for a sleek, contemporary, jointless finish.
Pitted / Concrete Finishes
Pitted and concrete-effect finishes give a wall the raw, textured character of exposed concrete without the weight, cost, or structural work of the real material.
