Sticking

Sticking, or dot-and-dab drylining, fixes plasterboard directly to a solid wall with adhesive dabs, straightening the wall without losing much room depth.

Sticking, also known as dot-and-dab, is a drylining method where plasterboard is fixed directly to a solid masonry wall using adhesive dabs rather than a timber or metal frame. It is the fastest way to straighten and finish a solid wall while keeping the loss of room space to a minimum.

This is the go-to method for bringing old, uneven solid walls up to a straight, modern finish without the cost and mess of a full float and set. Dabs of adhesive are applied to the wall in a set pattern, boards are pressed and levelled against them, and once cured, the wall is ready for jointing and skimming.

Sticking is especially common in renovation work where solid brick or block walls have been exposed after removing old finishes, or where a straighter, better-insulated wall is wanted without rebuilding the studwork from scratch.

Signs You Need Sticking

  • Solid brick or block walls that are slightly uneven and need straightening
  • Renovation projects where old wet plaster has been hacked off
  • Walls where minimal loss of room depth matters
  • Adding basic thermal lining behind the board on cold solid walls
  • Faster turnaround needed than a full float and set system
